Omega Delta Phi continues the legacy for improvement and community initiative. Each semester O-D-Phi is dedicated to concerns and needs of the community. For our brotherhood to continue its basic necessities each semester, a need for funding is required. With that, Omega Delta Phi held its first Spaghetti Plate Sale. This plate sale was a great success. With tickets sales over 150, we were able to complete another semesters budget and uphold our integrity to the needs of the community. We would like to thank all those who helped with fundraiser and hope that you will continue to be loyal to help us fulfill our fraternal goals and mission.

Between all Greek organizations this event is a time where members of the St. Mary’s community gather to celebrate the holiday season and spread the cheer to other families who are less fortunate. We decorated a Christmas wreath as well as a $10.00 gift card to Wal-Mart that the family will receive with the wreath.

Every year the brothers of Omega Delta Phi Alpha Pi participate in Boo Bash. Boo Bash is a University wide service event, hosted by RHA (Resident Hall Association), that provides the surrounding community a safe environment to trick or treat. The event is held in pecan grove, there are small carnival games for the children and is where the tours start for the halls. Some resident’s halls are turned into haunted houses and others kid friendly corridors. Omega Delta Phi was placed in charge of registering the participants in before they are sent to the several halls. We enjoy volunteering for this event. Congratulations to RHA for having another successful Boo Bash.

Every year the Brothers of Alpha Pi host a variety of events in order to raise funds to donate to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

JDRF is the leader in research leading to a cure for type 1 diabetes in the world. It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly, and can be fatal. Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump – each day, every day of their lives.

This year we raised $260 towards the children and research. It’s important to us that we do what we can to spread awareness about diabetes and support research. It breaks our hearts to imagine that children have to suffer everyday by dealing with diabetes. This year we set Oct. 13 – 17 as Juvenile Diabetes Week. We held tables in the University Center Atrium with information about JDRF. To change things up, on Quad Friday Oct 15. we rented a Dunk Tank in order to help collect donations and spread awareness. That same day we also cooked hot dogs in order to invite people to walk; which is our main event.

JDRF San Antonio holds a 5k walk at the Alamodome and we try to have a large team to show St. Mary’s support for the cause. We would like to give thanks to the Ladies of Delta Zeta for joining us on the walk. At 7:30 am we met in front of AACC (aka Gym) where we provided snacks and we departed for the walk at 8:00 am. A majority of our brothers left earlier at 5:30 am in order to help setup the walk. Overall we had very successful event and would like to thank all those who we’re apart of our cause; especially SGA (Student Government Association) we couldn’t have done it without you.

All of us had a tons of fun; as our second date dash its going to be hard to top this one. Take a look for yourself over two hundred pictures were taken.

Kidd Kraddick a disk jockey that airs on MIX 96.1 wanted to make a difference in the lives of terminally and chronically ill children. Each year, Kidd Kid’s offers five amazing days of suspended reality to children whose lives have been ravaged by disease. Kidd takes these children and their families to Walt Disney World in Florida. For many families with terminally ill or physically challenged children, this is a very rare opportunity to leave behind hospital and treatment centers to share laughter and fun in a magical environment. It’s the goal of Kidd’s Kids to make this a trip of a lifetime. With that in mind, Kidd’s Kids covers all expenses including airfare to/from their local market to DFW, chartered jet to/from DFW to Orlando, hotel, park passes, all meals, transportation while in Florida, souvenirs, special private character visits and so much more!

Bobby Biaza introduced Kidd’s Kids to our chapter last fall after learning about what’s Kidd’s Kid’s is about we decided to do our best to help raise funds for the organization. This year we started our Kidd’s Kids campaign on September 24; in which we held an information table in our University Center in order to solicit donations from the St. Mary’s Community. In exchange for their donation we made paper mickey mouse ears, in which the donor had the option to color, to be placed on a wall along with others. In addition to our information tables, we participated in our school’s Fall Festival hosted by UPC on September 29th. At Fall Fest we brought MIX 96.1 to DJ and local band Your Done For to perform and promote our cause. Thanks to the St. Mary’s community we were able to donate $214.83.

MIX 96.1 dedicated October 1st to Kidd’s Kids. On this day, MIX provides their listeners opportunities in several parts of San Antonio to donate to the cause. Not only does our chapter provide fiscal support to Kidd’s Kids we, and in any of our service, prefer hands on service. A majority of our brotherhood volunteered at MIX’s 281 & 1604 location in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Brothers made and held signs to catch the attention of cars passing by, while other brothers stood outside of Wal-Mart and solicited donations.

Overall we would like to thank everyone one for their support. Our brotherhood enjoys supporting Kidd’s Kids and looks forward to continue to bring Kidd’s Kids to St. Mary’s.
